Evenin' all....
Many people will be aware of this story about a guy who got caught up in the G20 protests and ended up having a fatal heart attack.
Now I’ve been a law-abiding citizen all my life so have had relatively little contact with the police and never as their prey but I’m sad to say that most of my encounters with them have been very unsettling. They seem to adopt a personality not unlike Jeremy Paxman, firing questions at you in an aggressive tone and giving you the evil eye. They call you ‘madam’ in a way that sounds like ‘bitch’ and you know they’re just itching for you to put a toe out of line so they have an excuse to charge you with something. Anything.
Years ago when we lived in Glasgow we found this poor guy one night that had been slashed and robbed. He was going into shock so we asked him his name, address etc. and wrote them down (before he totally lost the plot). By the time the police arrived it was very obvious that the guy was out of it and semi-conscious but they immediately started shouting at him, asking him his name and so on. When we tried to tell them that we’d got it all written down they told us to be quiet and not interrupt them, then they started yelling at him again. We tried again to give them the paper with all his details on it and they told us to go away or we’d be cautioned for interfering with police business!!!! So instead of them being able to contact his family right away and get his medical records if necessary, they probably had to wait until he’d recovered enough to talk. That incident really opened my eyes to the way some police officers get affected by themselves and I’ve never felt comfortable dealing with them since then.
Also, they are great believers in ‘don’t do as I do, do as I say’. I got an ear bashing for double parking outside the cash machine near my work then the next day the VERY SAME policeman that had checked me was double parked HIMSELF and using the same machine.
I mean I know we need a police force otherwise there would be total anarchy but I think they need to be far more strictly monitored and more accountable for their actions.
And God help us if they get guns.
Even tho I’ve no done anything wrong, I always feel guilty when I’m around the polis.
It was on the news aboot that guy at the G20 thing. For a start, it’s said that he wisnae even there to protest, he was just trying to get hame after work and found that aw the streets were blocked.
Also, if ye look at the film, he’s walking away fae them as the polis knock him tae the ground. Wi his hauns in his pockets.
It hardly looks like he was being aggressive or challenging the polis.
And of course, there will be an IPCC investigation intae it, the polis will probably have nae repercussions and that’ll be it.
Only real experience I have wi the polis is either reporting a crime, being a witness or the lovely cuntstable I had the pleasure of meeting aboot a year and a half ago.
Building I was in went on fire, my flat was filled with smoke in the middle of the night. Couldnae open the front door cos the handle was burning hot. In a total state of panic. Had phoned fire brigade, trying tae get oot, past the flames, doon the stairs and oot the front. Fire engine sitting there, polis anaw cos the wee man doon thru the wall thought someone had tanned his kitchen windae (it was the heat that cracked the glass)
So there’s me, gasping for air and I get this big fucking 6ft polis shouting at me:
“Do you have any reason to believe the fire was started intentionally?”
I just kept going:
“I don’t know, I was in my bed… I don’t know…”
And he’s tutting and shaking his heid and asking if I was smoking and aw this pish. The wee paramedic guy had tae tell him tae leave me alone.
They talk tae you how they like cos if you answer back, they throw you in the back of the van and gie ye a kicking.
Allegedly.
I saw that video Fiona.I have always thought the British Police were Bastards and they have been used to bully and frighten the British Public.
Look at the miners strike total Bastards back then.
They are a legalised gang of smartarse bullies.
That do what they want with not much comeback.Look at the poor Brazilian student who was shot multiple times by a trigger happy thug.
I would go as far as saying I find American cops more approachable and helpful than your supposedly friendly British Bobby.
I know we need them but we don,t need this arrogant type of policing.
Another point no one I knew or were pals with ever did or want to join the Police.I always found it was wanks that joined the police fae school
Rant Rant Rant
Fuck Da Polis
My sentiments exactly. There’s a good reason people refer to them as ‘pigs’.
